Private alcohol treatment does not have one standard price. A quote can cover a residential week, a thirty-day stay, a medical phase, or a package of outpatient contacts. The useful comparison is the total cost of the clinically appropriate pathway, with its inclusions and uncertainties made clear.
The examples below use publicly stated provider fees checked on October 18, 2026. They illustrate different pricing units and program structures, not a market average. A published fee is not a personal quotation, and ability to pay does not establish clinical suitability.
Current BALANCE and COGNIFUL fee examples
These published fees are per client, per residential week in Mallorca, in euros. Confirm the location and currency in the personal proposal; the figures should not be treated as converted Swiss prices.
| Program | Mallorca weekly fee | Published aftercare inclusion |
|---|---|---|
| BALANCE Executive | EUR 80,000 | Three months |
| BALANCE Signature | EUR 100,000 | Twelve months |
| COGNIFUL Premier | EUR 30,000 | Discharge planning; confirm additional follow-up separately |
| COGNIFUL Premier Plus | EUR 50,000 | Three months |
THE BALANCE Executive and Signature both provide individual treatment and activities. Each residence is reserved for one client, with a dedicated chef and personal manager. All clinical, bodywork and holistic sessions, excursions and activities are individual. COGNIFUL Premier: individual clinical treatment and bodywork, with shared holistic sessions and activities. COGNIFUL Premier Plus: all sessions and activities individual, plus three months of structured aftercare. Both offer private suites in a shared residence for up to four clients. Aftercare follows the residential stay. Do not multiply the weekly residential rate by the included aftercare months. Ask what scheduled contacts, clinical roles, and limits are included during that period.
Other public examples use different units
Camino Recovery’s current homepage states EUR 28,500 for an initial thirty-day stay. It also says required medical detoxification is arranged with a local provider before residential treatment. Ask whether that separate medical phase is included in the individual quotation. Source: Camino Recovery.
McLean Fernside, described on the Mass General Brigham website, publishes USD 73,500 for thirty days and identifies the program as self-pay, without insurance or third-party payment. It is a post-detox residential program with private ensuite rooms and individual and group treatment. Source: Mass General Brigham, Fernside.
A thirty-day price and a four-week price cover different numbers of days. Different currencies, clinical services, accommodation, and follow-up further limit direct comparison. Normalize the quotation carefully before deciding that one offer costs less for equivalent care.
Ask which care is medically appropriate before choosing a budget tier
The required setting may be influenced by withdrawal risk, physical health, other substances, psychiatric needs, and available support. A private residence cannot be made suitable simply by purchasing more amenities, and a more expensive package is not automatically necessary.
The UK alcohol-treatment guidelines describe assessing individual needs and planning transitions between services. Use that clinical process to establish what the quote needs to include. Source: residential and intensive day treatment guidance.
If the recommendation is unaffordable, discuss alternative services or a different clinically appropriate sequence. Do not independently remove necessary medical care from the plan to make a residential booking fit a preferred budget.
Separate withdrawal management from ongoing treatment
Ask whether medical assessment, supervised withdrawal, medication, laboratory work, nursing, and hospital care are included, arranged externally, or billed separately. Clarify who decides if an external service is needed and who explains the additional cost.
Some residential programs begin after detoxification; others provide particular forms of withdrawal care onsite. A broad statement that detox is available does not establish the capability required for an individual’s situation or the financial scope of the package.
Our detox and rehabilitation guide explains the clinical distinction. A financial comparison should preserve it, because a low residential quote may not cover the first medical stage the person needs.
Calculate the booked period without inventing a treatment duration
For illustration only, four residential weeks at EUR 90,000 per week equal EUR 360,000 before any separately charged items. That arithmetic does not mean four weeks is clinically recommended or that every cost is contained in that amount.
Ask whether fees are calculated by full weeks, nights, days, or a minimum program block. Clarify how partial weeks, delayed arrival, an extension, or a temporary hospital transfer are handled. The contract should identify the chargeable period.
Keep the expected clinical review date separate from the payment deadline. An extension should have a clinical explanation and a revised financial agreement, including whether the same accommodation and team remain available.
Compare the clinical services inside the package
Request the intended frequency and type of individual therapy, group work, psychiatric appointments, medical review, and family involvement. Establish which services are selected after assessment and which require extra payment.
Ask how a missed or rescheduled session is handled and whether outside consultations create professional, transport, or facility charges. A package can be clear without promising an identical timetable to every patient, provided the method for agreeing the actual care is understandable.
For a broader comparison of clinical and practical scope, use our program comparison guide. Counting session hours alone cannot establish quality, but unexplained differences in included care should be clarified before comparing total prices.
Include accommodation and everyday expenses
Confirm the room category, bathroom, shared facilities, meals, laundry, local transport, and any companion arrangements. Ask whether a room shown in a brochure is the one being reserved and whether substitution can change the price.
Discuss accessibility, dietary requirements, equipment, or assistance before arrival. If an adjustment creates an extra charge, have it identified in writing. A vague assurance that everything can be arranged is less useful than an agreed description of what the service can provide.
Add travel, visas where needed, communication costs, and responsibilities at home such as childcare or work cover. These are not necessarily treatment fees, but they affect the amount required to attend and complete the planned care.
Verify insurance for the actual patient and program
SAMHSA recommends asking the insurer which treatment is covered, the patient’s cost-sharing, preferred providers, and any case-management support. Coverage varies by plan and level of care. Source: SAMHSA insurance questions.
Provide the exact provider, location, program, and proposed dates. Ask about authorization requirements, benefit limits, deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and reimbursement procedures. A provider accepting insurance generally does not guarantee payment for a specific stay.
For treatment abroad, ask about planned overseas treatment explicitly. Travel insurance, emergency medical coverage, and reimbursement for an elective residential program are separate questions. Keep the insurer’s written explanation or reference details with the treatment quote.
Read payment, cancellation, and transfer terms
Establish the deposit, payment dates, accepted currency, and any bank or card charges. Ask what happens if clinical review finds the person unsuitable after an initial reservation, or if required medical preparation delays arrival.
Clarify refunds or credits for unused days, early departure, emergency transfer, and cancellation. Ask who can authorize extra services and whether a family member paying the bill receives financial information only or another specifically agreed category of information.
If a loan or payment plan is offered, review its total repayment cost, deadlines, and consequences independently of the clinical recommendation. A financing arrangement should not be accepted under the assumption that it changes the likelihood of treatment success.
Reserve resources for continuing care
Ask what the included aftercare actually contains and which ongoing needs remain separately funded. Individual therapy, psychiatric prescribing, medication, local medical follow-up, support groups, and case management can have different cost arrangements.
Confirm the first appointments and likely financial commitments before the residential period ends. A plan that uses all available resources on accommodation while leaving necessary follow-up unaffordable should be discussed with the clinical team.
For those needing less costly options, SAMHSA describes sliding fees, grants or charity care, payment plans, and state or community resources in the United States. Availability and eligibility must be checked with each service. Source: SAMHSA free and lower-cost treatment options.
Keep confirmed costs separate from contingencies
Organize the budget into the agreed program charge, known additional expenses, and unresolved possibilities. For example, a confirmed transfer fee belongs with known expenses, while an unpriced specialist consultation belongs in the questions still awaiting an answer. This makes uncertainty visible without pretending every possible event can be predicted.
Ask how the provider will communicate a proposed additional expense and who has authority to approve it. If urgent clinical circumstances limit advance discussion, ask how the contract addresses that situation. A clear process is more useful than an arbitrary contingency percentage that may have little relationship to the person’s actual care needs.
Ask for one final written cost summary
Before committing, bring the clinical recommendation, quoted period, included services, known exclusions, payment terms, and next-stage costs together. Mark anything that remains an estimate and identify who can resolve it. Ask for clarification of conflicting website, email, or contract information.
The aim is a treatment decision that is clinically justified and financially understandable. Price can describe the resources and format being purchased, but the quality of the decision depends on whether the actual care meets the person’s needs and can continue beyond the initial stay.
